Hello friend; noticed your grow question but had closed before was able to comment.
Think what you're trying to accomplish was not double (FIM) but called back budding.
You take just a bit off top to fatten and create dense buds. Am I correct? That is OK to do but you should wait until the preflower / stretch is done. Can check out my diarys if want to learn it.
