7/1/2019 - Things happening this week: more pruning and training, taking clippings to determine sex, topping, and potentially culling! Also might look at how difficult root grafting is for transitioning plants into aero system. Split my main stalk/meristem training site 2! Everything I know about botany says this should be fine. The split is in the direction of the plant's vascular system, so nothing is severed. Bound it and covered to protect. Becoming more concerned about the base of site 6's stalk. Tissue necrosis seems to be progressing. I have to find a solution to this or I'll lose the plant. 7/2/2019 - Didn't spend much time in the garden tonight. Plants are drinking and so was I. Nutrient delta between reservoir and waste is increasing. Increasing nutrients into low 700 PPM to meet their needs. 7/3/2019 - Taking cuts today to determine sex. This time around, I have rooting powder (butyric acid) this time around to get those roots down a little faster. Closet is set up to house these clones while they flower on 12/12. Hopefully all these cuttings are mature enough to tell me each plant's secret. Then I can kill them men. Topped two/four tops on sites 2 and 4 tonight. They were each at four nodes. Waiting for top branches to catch up on nodes. 7/4/2019 - Happy Independence Day! Cuttings are doing well as of this morning. Aero plants are still sucking down nutrients. Pruned and trained all around today. Pruned interior and any leaves covering nodes. Left behind large old grown fan leaves on the lower portions of the plant if they were getting light. 7/5/2019 - Did some aggressive defoliation throughout the canopy. Opened up new growth to light, should lead to more tops. I now have a fan leaf removal methodology: 1. Remove all fan leaves growing upwards. Training the plant causes some nodes to face directly up, these fan leaves will only block light to important production sites; remove them. 2. Remove any interior-growing fan leaves. The interior of the plant should be completely open to budding sites. 3. Leave only lower and outer fan leaves on plant, and only if they are getting light. This large photosynthesis surface area is valuable, but only if it is able to do its job. 7/6/2019 - Tucking leaves today. Pruning three days in a row feels wrong. New growth is slightly inconvenience by some fan leaves, able to be tucked. Hella branching and tops at this point. Speaking of, finished topping sites 2 and 4 this morning. Still waiting for cuttings to flower. Hopefully tomorrow. Seeing some pre-flowers on the larger plants? Could also be new leaves growing at nodes? Keeping an eye on them.

I have some dead roots tangled with my healthy roots-- left behind from removing a male. Clearly they are going to decay in some way. Will they affect the health of my living roots? How to treat them? Complete removal impossible.

Hey you can add 2 tsp per gallon of 3% hydrogen peroxide. It will kill off the bacteria that is blooming feeding on the decaying roots. The peroxide breaks down into water and a rogue O molecule. If that molecule runs into bacteria it kills it. If is hits another O molecule it adds oxygen to the water. It is a win win. Since it breaks down you will want to add another 2tsp about every 4 days or if the water gets cloudy. After a couple weeks the dead roots should be broken down. Just monitor your water for cloudiness after that and start the h2o2 again if you see cloudiness or an unusual ph fluctuation. You can use 3 tsp max but 2 has always fixed my issues. Hope this helps.
