Ghost Train Haze Bag Seed Grow

Ghost Train Haze Week 5 Notes 11/18 Gave the pair a watering today (cal/mag and PH’d), seems like they’re starting to drink a bit quicker which is cool. Also received an email from the testing company saying they had received the samples and would be able to send me the gender results in the next 2-5 days. Super dope. 11/20 – midweek Got the gender results in today! It was weirdly a blast to open up the email and finally find out whether I’m a step closer to finishing this dream project – and all purely based on chance and a roll of the dice. When I sent in the samples I mentioned that the plant origins were from bag seed and possibly hermaphroditic in nature, and I was pleasantly surprised to see them give me a cautionary heads-up. They mentioned it would be a good idea to continue to monitor the plants, especially since herms are genetically female – meaning that despite their physical transformation, their DNA chromosomes remain female (XX chromosomes). Essentially, they could hermie out on me if the mother went hermie, because that trait was passed down to the seeds. Since I’m just a home grower and the seeds are purely for my own supply, I’m personally fine with continuing this process of breeding for seeds that may go hermie so I can keep a line of access without keeping mother plants and cloning or going with the feminized seeds route. In my mind, it would be pretty uncool to make seeds with hermie origins with the intent of buying or selling to others as it has so few benefits and can cause a lot of harm to a growers crop. Just saying lol. Anyways, on to the dope news – I got my ideal situation, in a sense. Biggie, my favorite pheno of the two Ghost Train Haze seeds I’m currently growing, is male. Smalls, who’s behind Biggie in development by about a week and has ended up leggier, sparser, and overall a bit less desirable for me unfortunatey, is female. Worst case scenario, although Smalls might not be quite as picture perfect as Biggie is looking right now, I have a male and female to breed with right off the bat which is pretty freaking dope. I’ll keep Biggie on an 18/6 light schedule and not do any training to keep him small until it’s time to switch him to flower, at which the only difference I’ll really be making is doing a 12/12 light schedule. Smalls is not my ideal partner for Biggie but still my one and only female, so I’ll start doing some training to maximize her bud sites while I start one or both of my remaining two seeds in the hopes of a female pheno popping up that appeals to me more. Regardless of whether some of her bud sites are pollinized as a last resort or not, I’m definitely not missing out on the chance to smoke some Ghost Train Haze lol. 11/21 Went ahead and topped Smalls today. Went well, was quick and easy, then gave her watering. Biggie got nothing. 11/23 There’s only about an inch’s difference in height between Biggie and Smalls, but visually they just look so different it’s a little weird. Biggie’s looking a little like a baby christmas tree right now with the way he’s filling out, While Smalls is still looking…like the Charlie brown christmas tree to be honest. I’m still glad to have a female out of the bunch worst case scenario, but she’s got some weird mutation or crazy leggy pheno going on or something. Iit’s like gravity pulls down on her too much, and instead of reaching up towards the sky she just sticks straight out. The increased light seems to have helped curb the lengthening between the nodes she had going on for a week or two there, and I think she may do a lot better in a reflective grow tent with some extra attention paid to training. May try topping and mainlining.
